Pet Safety Tips
Ask anybody about pet safety tips and you are sure to get some answers. It is like “As many tips as many mouths”.
Pet safety tips can be rightfully said to be synonymous with child safety tips. If you know the child safety tips, you need not be worried about pet safety tips because you are all set to bring in your first pet, be it a puppy or a kitten or any other specimen of pet. However, every person should ask these questions to himself/herself before bringing in a pet to share and grace his/her house.
- Is my house safe for my pet?
- Am I capable enough to handle any emergency at any given time that may occur with the pet?
- Is the surrounding of my house conducive to the health of my pet?
- What are the most essential steps to be taken to raise a pet properly?
- How am I going to train my pet to obey and understand my commands and words respectively?
- Are all the members of my family fit and willing enough to accommodate a pet?
- Who will be there to look after the pet in case of absence of most of the members of my family?
Let us now consider the individual questions elaborately:
Is my house safe for my pet?
If a house has too many electrical outlets, loose electric wires, medicines and cigarette buds strewn around, open closets and cabinets, dark corners, easy access to rich food, herb and medicinal plants, toy guns and noisy toys, it cannot be considered as a safe house to raise a pet.
Loose electrical connections and naked wires must be fixed and taped properly. A house must be electric shock proof both for a child and a pet. The cabinets and closets should always be kept closed and locked.
Am I capable enough to handle any emergency at any given time that may occur with the pet?
If the answer to the question is “NO”, please ensure that you have a competent veterinary doctor within the reach or a phone call away, before bringing in a pet. It is always advised to know one’s pet for its proper upbringing. Take the suggestions and pieces of advice from a competent person and know your pet first.
If the surrounding of a house is not safe, a pet is in danger of facing dire consequences. For example, if there is heavy traffic, unruly children or no fence around your house, any untoward incident may occur. One must take into consideration these things before keeping a pet. Certain plants and herbs are very dangerous for a pet. A pet has a tendency to chew the leaves of a plant often to satisfy its curiosity or boredom. One must ensure that no such plant or herb is around the house.
What are the most essential steps to be taken to raise a pet properly?
Often a person does not have any idea about what to feed a pet, how often to feed a pet, how much quantity per feed to be given, how to protect a pet from heat and over exposure, how to protect a pet from getting dehydrated.
One must get all the answers of these questions before planning to keep a pet. Pets too can be understood from their body language. It is better to ask a competent person to give some knowledge in the matter.
A pet is like a child. As a child grows, it starts recognizing signs and signals and starts understanding the meaning of some words, so is the case with most of the pets. However, veteran trainer’s counsel should be sought for, to have better results.
Are all the members of my family fit and willing enough to accommodate a pet?
If there is a member of one’s family unwilling to accommodate a pet in the house then either he/she should be made to understand or he/she should be kept at a distance from the pet. If both the steps are impossible, it is better not to bring in a pet. It has been observed that an unwilling member of a family can cause much pain and sorrow to the pet.
Who will be there to look after the pet in case of absence of most of the members of my family?
You can well imagine what happens to a child, when it is left alone for most of the time. Just like a lonely child, a lonely pet can be moody, ill tempered and unpredictable. A pet like a child should never be kept alone.
